Claims third-tier prize in April 1 drawing
Congratulations to a very lucky Lottery player from Frederick, who received a free Powerball ticket, courtesy of our Jackpot Reset promotion, that left her $50,000 richer.
The Lottery kicked off a Jackpot Reset promotion for Mega Millions on March 29 after a player in New Jersey won the $1.13 billion jackpot in the March 26 drawing. The promotion ran March 29 through April 11 and issued free $2 Powerball tickets with random purchases Mega Millions tickets.
The Frederick resident stopped at Giant Eagle #1841 located at 1275 West Patrick Street in Frederick and came away with the free ticket for the April 1 Powerball drawing. While the Mega Millions jackpot had just been hit, the Powerball jackpot was still rolling at the time and was an estimated $975 million on April 1.
The winner checked her ticket the next day and experienced an amazing surprise. She matched four of the first five numbers and the Powerball, missing the jackpot by one number. “Oh my gosh,” was her initial reaction. “I never would have believed it.”
The first thing she did was phone her mother, who happily accompanied the daughter to the Lottery Winner’s Circle to enjoy the experience of claiming the big prize. The Frederick County winner said she plans to share her windfall with her large extended family. “I just got lucky,” she said.
This player is the last of three Maryland winners of $50,000 in the April 1 drawing to step forward to claim their prize. So far this year, Maryland Lottery retailers have sold six second-tier Powerball winning tickets each worth $1 million along with 26 third-tier winners that delivered prizes ranging from $50,000 to $150,000, as well as three $50,000 Powerball Double Play winners.
