Silver Spring Woman’s Research Reveals $50,000 Powerball Win

Casual player mystified by message on ticket checker

A Montgomery County resident who replayed a $6 ticket discovered, after some research, that she won $50,000 in the April 6 Powerball drawing.

The Silver Spring woman reports being a casual Powerball player, saying a family friend encouraged her to purchase a ticket because of the climbing jackpot. She is glad she listened but said she still hasn’t told her friend that she won.

“I am not a regular Powerball player but I will become one after this win,” she said with a smile.

The lucky lady replayed a $6 ticket on April 6 at the Silver Spring 7-Eleven #25403 at 13401 New Hampshire Avenue. She returned the next day, after the April 6 drawing, to the Montgomery County store to check her ticket for a win.

When she scanned the ticket, the message “Take to Lottery” appeared on the ticket checker. As a casual player, she did not know what that meant so she went home to do some research. When she looked up the winning numbers for April 6, she saw she had matched four out of five numbers and the Powerball. When she looked at the prize structure, she realized her ticket won $50,000.

“Oh my gosh,” she said. “It was a good thing that I got that message.”

The federal government worker purchased three lines of numbers on her ticket. The first two lines were numbers based on family birthdays, but the last line she selected had numbers that she simply “typed away.” That last line with the insignificant numbers was her winner.

The lucky player is an avid roller skater and plans to use her prize to pay off the loan on her vehicle.

Although both the Mega Millions and Powerball jackpots were recently hit, Maryland Lottery players can still have fun through a Jackpot Reset promotion now in progress. Maryland players purchasing a Powerball ticket now through April 21 could win a free $2 Mega Millions ticket awarded at random. The free ticket will print immediately after the Powerball ticket prints.
