An avid Lottery player from Montgomery County is super excited after winning $50,000 playing the Maryland Lottery’s Pick 5 game using numbers that are special to him.
He stopped at Goshen Beer & Wine to grab a soda on Aug. 3 and figured since he was already there, he might as well play his numbers.
“I used my last five dollars and I purchased a Pick 3 and Pick 5 ticket for that night’s drawing,” he said Aug. 18 when he claimed his winnings at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
On the $1 Pick 5 ticket he played his special numbers, 8-4-8-9-6, to come out straight. And, sure enough, they came out that evening. It wasn’t until the next day, however, that he realized he was a winner, discovering his good fortune while at work. The auto mechanic was blown away when he checked the Lottery’s website for the winning numbers.
“It was the first time ever seeing my numbers come out,” he smiled. “I was shocked.”
Although very excited about his win, he kept quiet and worked the rest of the day. He later shared the good news with his son and girlfriend.
When claiming his prize, he shared with Lottery officials that he plans to use his $50,000 prize to pay his property taxes and to do some home remodeling.
The Pick 5 winner purchased his ticket from Goshen Beer & Wine at 9150 Rothbury Drive in Montgomery Village. For selling the top-prize winner, the Montgomery County business receives a $500 bonus.
