A Montgomery County woman is adding to her nest egg, thanks to a second $50,000 win this year on the Pick 5 game. She won the prize before earlier this year and believes good karma led to her winning twice.
The Germantown lady plays the Pick 3, Pick 4 and Pick 5 games weekly. She gives the money to her grandson every Tuesday and he purchases her games for the week. Among the games purchased was a $14 Pick 5 ticket for midday and evening games August 18 through August 25 using her special numbers 12912. To her surprise those numbers came out straight in the Pick 5 evening drawing on August 23.
The Germantown player said the day she realized she was a winner; she and her grandson were out running errands. He took her to get her nails done and later they stopped at a roadside farmer’s stand. The fortunate grandmother said they noticed people were taking items and not paying, but they would have no parts in that behavior.
“The owners there rely on people being honest and they placed a box for people to pay what they want,” she said. “But people were out there just taking what they wanted and not leaving a penny in the box.”
The big winner said she was not about to do that and although it took a minute to find, she left money for her items in the box. Later that night, when she checked her tickets, she noticed some familiar numbers.
“I thought, ‘Oh my goodness, I hit the five-digit again,’” she smiled while sharing her story with the Lottery on September 8 when she claimed her $50,000 prize. “I called and told my grandson I won again.”
“I told her it was karma that she won because we paid for our items at the farmer’s stand,” said the winner’s grandson who accompanied his grandmother to claim the prize.
The retired postal worker said she will use some the funds for home renovations and will save the rest. She also plans to give some to her grandson for always helping her out. She says the win is a blessing.
“It’s not about the money,” she shared. “It’s about the victory.”
This is the lucky player’s second time winning Pick 5 straight for $50,000. She visited the Lottery’s Winner’s Circle once before in April.
The Montgomery County’s player’s winning ticket was purchased at the Town Center Sunoco at 19738 Germantown Road in Germantown. The store receives a $500 bonus for selling the top prize Pick 5 winner.
