Grandchildren’s Ages Pay Out Big for Essex Bonus Match 5 Winner

John Lang of Essex used the ages of his grandchildren to play a game of Bonus Match 5. That strategy paid off after he matched all five numbers for a $50,000 top prize on the draw game.

The retiree said this was the first time he had played in a month. He had taken a break, but decided to purchase a ticket last week. He went back to the store the next day to see if he had a winner.

“I asked them to check my numbers. They said ‘Mr. John, you just won $50,000’,” John recalled.

According to the Baltimore County resident, he likes to play different combinations, including his grandchildren’s ages. John said he keeps up with the numbers. For example, if his 20-year-old grandchild turns 21, the next day he will remove the number 20 from his rotation and change it to 21.

John said he plans to put some money away and will use some of the prize on home improvement projects.

The winning ticket was purchased at Mace Liquors, located at 507 Mace Avenue in Baltimore County. For selling the ticket, the Essex retailer will pick up a $500 bonus.
