Grateful Prince George’s County Man Scores $500,000 Powerball Double Play Prize

Grateful jackpot chaser “Gomoam” from Upper Marlboro plans to help his family after winning $500,000 in the April 11 Powerball Double Play drawing.

A jackpot chaser from Upper Marlboro is counting his blessings after winning a $500,000 Powerball Double Play prize. He was seeking the jackpot on April 11 when he purchased five sets of numbers, adding the Double Play and Power Play options for $1 each for a total cost of $20. And even though the jackpot eluded him on that day, the Double Play drawing delivered a second chance to win.

“Gomoam,” a name the big winner chose for publicity purposes, is there for his family when they need him. On Saturday, April 11, he was helping his father and running errands. He enjoys playing the Maryland Lottery’s jackpot games and remembered that the Powerball drawing was that night. So, before heading home, he stopped at the Shoppers grocery store in Largo and bought five combinations of Powerball with the Power Play and Double Play option for an additional cost. It was the next day when “Gomoam” realized his win.

“I scanned the ticket using my phone and it said $500,000,” the thankful winner said. “I was running around the house, screaming. This is life changing for me!”

But “Gomoam’s” win wasn’t from the Powerball jackpot drawing, he won on the Double Play, a second drawing that’s held 30 minutes after every Powerball drawing, giving players the chance to win up to $10 million with the same numbers on their Powerball ticket.

“Gomoam” matched the five white balls, but not the red Power Ball, for the $500,000 second-tier prize.

“I’m just thanking God,” the big winner said. “I couldn’t have imagined this happening in a million years.”

The Prince George’s County resident claimed his big prize on April 23. When speaking at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore, he said his good fortune puts him in the position to help his family. The federal government contractor also plans to take care of some of his personal needs with the win and will save the rest.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Shoppers grocery store at 806 Largo Center Drive in Largo. For selling the winning ticket, the retailer will receive a $1,000 bonus.
