Hagerstown Woman Turns Trip to Doctor into $50K Scratch-off Win

Who says a trip to the doctor’s office can’t be exciting? A Hagerstown woman found out just how exciting when she won $50,000 playing the Lottery scratch-off game All About Cash.

“I got bored waiting at the doctor’s,” she said Oct. 9 when she claimed her prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

Since she needed to kill time, she purchased a scratch-off at Liquor Locker, 1740 Dual Highway, in Hagerstown. Although she describes herself as a casual player, that didn’t stop her from winning a second-tier prize on the game. Top prize on the $20 ticket is $1 million.

When the Washington County resident started to scratch the ticket, she saw that all of her numbers matched up with winning numbers. First, she noticed two $1,000 prizes, then a $5,000 prize, a few more $1,000 prizes and another $5,000 prize and then she paused. The excitement was such that the county employee was compelled to instantly find out how much she won.

“I had to stop and went over to check the machine,” she said.

Once she scanned her ticket, it was revealed she was holding  a $50,000 winner. She plans to use her winnings to square her finances.

“I cried after I won. I was very happy,” She said.

All About Cash went on sale starting July 18. Four of the five $1 million top prizes are unclaimed. The only one to claim a top prize so far was a Baltimore County man.

The $50,000 Hagerstown winner now leaves two of the original four $50,000 second-tier prizes unclaimed. There are also prizes ranging from $40 to $10,000.
