Claims MONOPOLY X20 scratch-off top prize
He pushed the wrong button, an Edgewood man told Lottery officials on Tuesday, and he couldn’t be happier. That mistake delivered the biggest win he has ever experienced. The “wrong” game: a MONOPOLY X20 scratch-off. His prize: $50,000.
“I stopped at a Lottery store on my way to work, like I do every day,” the overjoyed landscaper explained. “Gas, if the truck needs it, coffee and a scratch ticket – that’s my morning routine.”
He knew exactly what game he wanted as he approached the Lottery vending machine at a Bel Air Wawa last week. “I was staring at my ticket but, for some reason, hit the MONOPOLY button.” MONOPOLY X20 is a $5 instant game that went on sale in mid-January with eight $50,000 top prizes.
“I didn’t notice the match at first, but when I did I thought I saw $1,000 as the prize, which was fantastic.” Once outside in his truck, however, he took a moment to really study his ticket. “I wanted to make sure that I’d really won $1,000 before I called my wife. When I saw the $50,000, everything got very still. I didn’t move, just stared at the ticket for a long time. I stopped breathing, I think.”
The lucky landscaper will use his winnings to pay off his truck, with the remainder added to his family’s savings. The Wawa store at 601 Hoagie Drive received a $500 bonus for selling the top-prize winner. MONOPOLY X20 has plenty of big cash prizes awaiting players. Among the hundreds of thousands of available prizes are four more $50,000 top prizes, six $5,000 and 21 $1,000 prizes.
The game is part of a Maryland Lottery family of MONOPOLY games and a MONOPOLY Second-Chance Promotion. Players can enter any of the six non-winning MONOPOLY scratch-offs into My Lottery Rewards for a chance to win a rolling cash jackpot or cash prize. Monthly drawings through July will award $5,000 prizes and rolling cash jackpots that start at $10,000 and grow until the drawing date.
