A Howard County man has been on a roll in life and it just got even better as he was a $50,000 winner on a $5,000,000 Fortune Maryland Lottery scratch-off.
“It was my birthday in August and now I won on a scratch-off. I’m retiring soon and my first grandchild is on the way,” the winner said with a smile.
He said his scratch-off win almost did not take place. He traveled to Lisbon Liquors at 16109 Frederick Road in Woodbine and the Howard County store was getting ready to close, but had a change of heart.
“The guy was getting ready to shut down the store, but he let me in,” he said. The loyal player took advantage of the opportunity and purchased multiple scratch-offs.
He scratched off the latex and spotted three of his numbers matched up with three $10,000 prizes. He sent a photo of the ticket to a friend so show off his win, but the friend looked at the photo and told him to look again. The ticket had additional wins, bringing the total to a $50,000 prize.
“I thought I won $30,000. I didn’t see the other two $10,000 prizes,” he said. The landscaper said he will be adding his winnings to his retirement fund.
The 5,000,000 Fortune ticket is a $50 game and went on sale in Feb. 19 with three top prizes of $5 million, nine at the second-tier $100,000 level and nine $50,000 prizes. The Howard County winners is the second person to claim one of the $50,000 prizes. There are still four unclaimed $100,000 prizes and one unclaimed top-prize of $5,000,000.
