Hyattsville Man Dons Glasses to Double-Check Scratch-off Win

Claims top prize on Lucky Riches instant ticket

A Prince George’s County resident needed to get a closer look at his Lucky Riches scratch-off because he was amazed to see he won the game’s $50,000 top prize.

“I needed to put my glasses on to really look at it. I couldn’t believe it,” said the lucky winner.

The Hyattsville man and his wife plan to pay bills with his prize. The 49-year-old is an installer who likes to watch soccer in his free time. He also likes to play Racetrax, Keno and scratch-offs a few times a week.

“If I am in the store and I see a game that I like, I will buy a ticket,” he explained.

Hillandale Beer & Wine at 10117 New Hampshire Avenue in Montgomery County benefits from selling a $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off. The Silver Spring retailer will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery.

Lucky Riches is the fifth most popular game in the Maryland Lottery Top 40 Scratch-offs. The $5 ticket went on sale Feb. 20 and the Hyattsville player found the game’s second top prize. Six prizes of $50,000 are unclaimed along with more than 957,000 others ranging from $5 to $5,000.
