This Baltimore City truck driver was shocked to win a $50,000 Pick 5 prize just weeks after his birthday.

A Baltimore player received a very special belated birthday gift this month from Lady Luck. He won $50,000 playing Pick 5! The lucky man has played the same special numbers — 82484 — as a $1 straight bet for a while and they paid off in the Jan. 26 midday drawing.
“Jay,” which is a nickname the anonymous winner uses, said he regularly plays Pick games. Last week, he was simply following his routine of purchasing midday games before running errands when the lucky ticket came his way. “Jay” stopped at Milford Liquors in Baltimore and, among other games, purchased a $1 Pick 5 ticket that bet 82484 would come out in that exact order. To his great surprise, it did! The loyal player didn’t realize his win until the day after the drawing.
“I got up and immediately checked the numbers on the Lottery’s website,” said the shocked truck driver. “I thought I’d win on Pick 3 or maybe Pick 4, but I never thought I would win on Pick 5.”
“Jay” decided to confirm his lucky win when he went to purchase his Pick games for another day. Sure enough, his $50,000 prize was verified.
“I just had a birthday earlier this month,” the happy player told Lottery officials. “I couldn’t have asked for a better gift.”
“Jay” claimed his birthday surprise earlier this week. He told Lottery officials that he has no major plans yet for his special gift other than sharing some of the funds with his daughter.
“Jay’s” lucky retailer also benefits. Milford Liquors located at 8100 Liberty Road in Baltimore County will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling a winning Pick 5 ticket worth $50,000.
