One lost Lottery ticket led to the purchase of a replacement that turned out to be a winner worth $50,000 for a woman from Upper Marlboro and her nephew.
On Nov. 7, the nephew had purchased a ticket for that evening’s Mega Millions drawing, but when the time came to check it, he realized he had lost the ticket. Rather than concern himself with what could have been – there were no jackpot winners on the Nov. 7 Mega Millions drawing anyway – he decided to try a game he had never played before: Bonus Match 5.
He put down $5, which gave him seven combinations (part of the game’s bonus is a discount for buying multiple combinations at once) and matched all of the first five numbers drawn for a top tier win.
“I’ve never played before,” the nephew said Nov. 10 after at Lottery headquarters with his aunt at his side.
The Lottery enthusiast said winning on his first Bonus Match 5 purchase means he’ll be adding that game to his usual playing.
“I’m hooked!” he said, adding that though he is a big fan of casinos, “My luck just switched over to the Lottery!”
The pair plans to put winnings into savings, spoiling a new grandchild and squaring up on finances.
For selling the hot ticket, the Wawa at 10050 Baltimore Avenue in College Park receives a $500 bonus.
