Lucky Baltimore County Man Goes from Tags to Riches

Winner claims $50,000 Pick 5 win using license tag number

A Randallstown player had paused his morning routine of visiting a nearby Lottery retailer to buy tickets before going to work. Then, inspired by license plate numbers, he resumed his routine and began playing those numbers in Pick 5 games. His license plate inspiration led to a $50,000 Pick 5 prize on April 13.

The 46-year-old visited New Beltway Shell located at 5932 Baltimore National Pike in Baltimore to try his luck. After placing his $2, two-draw bet on the April 13 midday and evening drawings, he stashed his ticket and awaited the Pick 5 drawing.

About an hour after the midday drawing, he checked the Lottery app for the Pick 5 winning numbers. “Now, ain’t this something,” the lucky winner said to himself after scanning his ticket and learning that he won $50,000. He immediately called his wife and his dad to share the news. His wife thought he was playing a belated April Fools’ Day prank.

The lucky Baltimore County man has worked for a utility company for the past 27 years. He plans to put some of his prize toward celebrating the happy couple’s 25th wedding anniversary and vow renewal event.

New Beltway Shell can also celebrate. The gas station will receive a $500 bonus for its role in selling a $50,000-winning Pick 5 ticket.
