A Gaithersburg dog lover turned his lucky feeling into a $100,000 Pick 5 prize!
Takes home top prize on two Pick 5 tickets
A Montgomery County man, who just recently started playing the Lottery, felt extra lucky this past Monday. That feeling led him to a nearby 7-Eleven to purchase two Pick 5 tickets.
A couple unexpected visitors knocked on the 63-year-old’s door to talk about the meaning of life. Feeling euphoric and enthusiastic after their conversation, he decided to test his luck by picking up two Pick 5 tickets containing his license plate number.
“I was having the craziest day,” he said. “Random things that never happen to me were happening.”
The next morning, he checked his tickets using the Maryland Lottery app on his phone and discovered he won. In disbelief, he immediately called his partner and asked her to verify the win. She checked his license plate against the previous evening’s drawing, confirmed the news.
“I still can’t believe it. We’re both still in shock,” the player told Lottery officials April 26 after claiming his prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. The big winner has no plans on how he’ll spend his fortune but he plans to keep playing the Lottery.
The retailer who sold the winning tickets will win, too. The 7-Eleven located at 8946 North Westland Drive in Gaithersburg will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling two $50,000 top-prize Pick 5 winning tickets.
