Lunch Break Brings $50,499 FAST PLAY Win for District Heights Player

Prince George’s County Lottery fan “Suga F” will have an extra special turkey day after winning the first FAST PLAY Cash Combination progressive jackpot!

A federal employee and Lottery fan, while on her lunch break, purchased some Maryland Lottery games on Sept. 8 and walked away $50,499 richer. She became the first progressive jackpot winner in the new FAST PLAY Cash Combination game, which launched in August.

“Suga F” from District Heights has an hour lunch break and she occasionally uses that time to play Lottery games. This time she stopped in J B Liquors at 5842 Silver Hill Road, also in District Heights, and purchased scratch-offs and FAST PLAY games from the Lottery vending machine. When looking over the $5 FAST PLAY Cash Combination ticket, something was a little odd to the regular player.

“So, on the very last row, I matched the three numbers and it said, progressive jackpot underneath,” smiled “Suga F” when she claimed the prize Sept. 11 at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. “I took off my glasses to look closer and then scanned the ticket.”

A congratulations message popped up, but “Suga F” did not know the prize amount. The Prince George’s County woman was so excited, she failed to notice that the current progressive jackpot amount that was listed at the top of the ticket slip.

“I went on the website and it showed a $33,000 prize, so I thought I won that,” she said, “I didn’t know I won $50,499 until the claims official told me.”

That’s because “Suga F” is a progressive jackpot winner and the jackpot she saw had reset. Even so, a $33,000 prize was great in her eyes and she immediately shared the news with her daughter.

“She face-timed me to show me the ticket,” said the daughter, who accompanied her mom to claim the prize. “I was sure she was lying.”

FAST PLAY progressive jackpot games have a top prize that increases each time someone buys a ticket. The Cash Combination progressive jackpot starts at $30,000. The game launched Aug. 22 with 15 top prizes, and “Suga F’s” win reduces the number to 14.

“Suga F” says she’ll use the prize money for a few home improvements and also use some to help pay for an already planned Thanksgiving trip.

Also celebrating is J B Liquors in District Heights. The retailer will receive a bonus of $1,000 for selling the top-tier winning ticket.
