The Maryland Lottery is proud to announce the selection of four winners in the Maryland Treasures Art Contest. The winning artwork was chosen from nearly 2,200 entries, and will be featured on the Maryland Treasures scratch-off ticket, which will go on sale in March 2026.
The Lottery launched the contest on July 1, inviting Maryland residents to submit original pieces of art celebrating Maryland’s history, landmarks, culture or traditions. A selection panel of Lottery employees planned to choose three winners, but decided to add a fourth because the quality of the submissions was so strong. The contest generated almost 2,200 pieces of art from more than 700 entrants, who were each permitted to submit up to five pieces.
“This was our first art contest, and the response was overwhelming,” said Maryland Lottery and Gaming Director John Martin. “We had image after image that we loved, which made it impossible to pick just three.”
Each winner will receive a $4,000 award from the Lottery. The four winning pieces of art will be revealed in March, shortly before the Maryland Treasures ticket goes on sale. The four winners are:
- Courtney Bindl of Timonium
- Julia Chiplis of Frederick
- Gia Coakley of Mount Airy
- Kevin Richardson of Columbia
“We’re excited for Courtney, Julia, Gia and Kevin, and we’re looking forward to sharing their artwork with the entire state,” Martin said. “All four versions of the Maryland Treasures ticket will have an eye-catching look that will hold a special appeal for Marylanders. Congratulations to the four of them from the entire Lottery team.”
