Michigan-Born Baltimore Resident ‘Floored’ by $50,000 Powerball Win

A Michigan-born man who now calls Baltimore home is celebrating a $50,000 Powerball win that came as a complete surprise after more than three decades of playing the lottery.

He said he was stunned when he scanned his ticket and saw the winning amount.

“It was a huge shock,” he said Feb. 10 when he claimed the prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. “I’ve never won more than $140 playing the lottery all these years, so when I scanned it and saw how much I won, I was floored.”

Over the years, the winner has gravitated toward games with large jackpots, like Mega Millions and Powerball. While he never expected to land a major prize, he shared that his recent win felt especially meaningful.

“A few weeks before I won, I prayed for $50,000,” he said. “I wanted to be able to help my four kids, who are all in college.”

The Baltimore resident works as a business manager and says he is grateful for his career, but noted that the prize money will provide significant financial relief for his family.

“This takes a lot of pressure off,” he said. “It means a lot to be able to support my kids as they work toward their futures.”

Looking ahead, the winner says he plans to continue playing and hopes lightning might strike twice. “I’m definitely going to keep playing,” he said with a smile. “You never know when it might happen again.”

The winning ticket was sold at The News Stand at 6901 Security Boulevard in Windsor Mill.
