Middle River Barber Wins $50,000 Playing Pick 5

A Middle River barber was all smiles after discovering he won $50,000 playing Pick 5 in the April 9 evening drawing.

“I was stunned and shocked, but definitely happy,” he said April 13 when he claimed the prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

The winner, who has been playing the Lottery for more than 20 years, said he enjoys playing for fun with family and friends, as well as for the thrill of chasing a big win. While Pick 5 is his favorite game, he occasionally plays Pick 3 and Pick 4.

Pick 5 became his go-to after a family friend suggested adding two numbers to his usual combination of 101. He has been playing the same numbers for years and the strategy finally paid off.

“I played 10110 boxed. I was so happy I couldn’t believe I won it straight!” he said.

Since the win, the player has carefully considered how to use his prize. He plans to take a well-deserved vacation, pay bills and make renovations to his home.

Looking ahead, the winner says he plans to keep playing.

“I’m confident in my approach, and it’s fun,” he added.

The winning ticket was sold at the Royal Farms at 1302 Windlass Drive in Baltimore. The retailer will receive a $500 bonus for selling the ticket.
