Unsure what inspired her purchase but player is pleased she followed through
Was it an impulse buy or a purchase made because she was feeling lucky? A Baltimore mother of two adult sons isn’t quite sure what led to her $1 Pick 5 ticket purchase this week but she is surely happy about winning $50,000.
The occasional player stopped at Tollgate Exxon in Owings Mills on Sunday, July 21, and bought a $1 straight bet ticket for the midday drawing. Later, she headed to church. She played part of one son’s birth date and, after the midday drawing, the other son happened to see the winning Pick 5 numbers and phoned his sibling.
“I asked him if he had played his birthday and he said no,” recalled the son, who had accompanied his mom to Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. “I couldn’t’ call my mom because she was in church.”
Afterward, he contacted her and she verified her purchase. “It was a surprise,” said the quiet winner. She’s only told one very close friend about her Lottery luck and, of course, both sons know. The winner plans to pay bills with her prize and keep her win a secret.
Tollgate Exxon at 10540 Reisterstown Road in Owings Mills will receive a $500 bonus for selling a top-prize Pick 5 winning ticket.
