New Carrollton Player’s Birthday Fun Includes $100,008 Keno Win

Lottery prize puts regular player on track for car, home renovations

Nov. 14 was a big day for a Maryland Lottery player from New Carrollton: she achieved a birthday milestone and won $100,008 playing Keno.

“When I saw that $100,000 come up, I said, ‘Woooo! Now I can get a new car!’” recalled the longtime Lottery player. She claimed her prize Nov. 19 at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

“I’ve been playing the Maryland Lottery since 1985,” noted the Prince George’s County resident. Over the years, she’s been a big fan of scratch-offs and won $20,000 several years ago on an instant ticket. She also plays Pick 3, 4 and 5 and has won straight bets three times on Pick 4. The $100,008 Keno win is her biggest prize to date.

For a few years in the late 1990s, the winner said, she played Keno fairly regularly. She typically played the 3-, 4- and 5-spot options that have relatively low prizes. The Keno fan started playing a 10-spot selection for 10 games in a row (a $10 bet) roughly every payday starting a few months ago. That’s the bet she placed at Zach’s Liquor in Hyattsville that paid big on her birthday.

“I really like Keno,” she said.

In addition to getting a new car, the happy winner is planning to continue some home improvement projects, put some of the funds into savings and maybe take a trip to Las Vegas.

The Hyattsville retailer that sold her lucky ticket also benefits. Zach’s Liquor at 6519 Annapolis Road in Prince George’s County receives a Lottery bonus of $1,000.
