New Lottery Millionaire in Severn Quietly Keeping Life the Same

Big score in Jan. 18 Mega Millions drawing will pay off mortgage, put kids through college

A new millionaire in Anne Arundel County doesn’t feel any differently yet after winning the $1 million second-tier prize in the Jan. 18 Mega Millions drawing. Upon claiming his prize Jan. 21, the Severn man said being a millionaire isn’t bringing any real changes – at least not right away.

The 42-year-old dad plans to pay off the mortgage on his house and set up college funds for his kids. Other than that, he has no immediate plans to change anything.

The lucky player bought the hot $10 quick-pick ticket at 7-Eleven #25410 located at 500 Donaldson Avenue in Severn. The store receives a bonus of $2,500 for selling a $1 million winning Mega Millions ticket. This is the first $1 million winning Mega Millions ticket won in Maryland in 2022. Last year, the Lottery welcomed three $1 million Mega Millions winners from drawings in January and April.

There’s still time to buy a ticket for tonight’s drawing. The jackpot for the Friday, Jan. 21 drawing has rolled to $376 million with a cash option of $256.4 million.
