New Lottery Star is Born in St. Mary’s County

Lucky lady wins $50,000 top prize playing Gold Bar Bingo 5th Edition scratch-off

A lover of bingo-themed games recently enjoyed her time in the Maryland Lottery winner spotlight after scratching her way to a $50,000 top prize playing the Gold Bar Bingo 5th Edition instant game.

The St. Mary’s County woman’s rise to fame began two weeks ago when, after work, she stopped to pick up some scratch-offs in California, Maryland. The lucky lady enjoys the extended play of bingo-themed games, so she purchased a few of the $5 Gold Bar Bingo scratch-offs.

“I like that I can take my time and play the game,” she told Lottery officials. “And, it’s suspenseful.”

At home, the scratch-off star prepared for her evening of bingo fun. She jumped into her pajamas and found a comfortable spot to enjoy her play time. “It has to be quiet and I need to be comfortable,” she said.

As she was scratching off the games and relaxing, the Southern Maryland player revealed her big win. She said she almost missed the $50,000 prize by putting down the instant ticket before taking a second look. When she spotted the winning “X” in the play area of her sixth bingo card, the winner called her niece for help. She texted a photo of the scratch-off to her niece so she could scan the prize check area for her. A screenshot of the winning message confirmed her suspicions: she was $50,000 richer!

“I didn’t believe it,” she said when claiming the prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. “I’m sitting here and I am still in disbelief.”

The scratch-off star’s niece accompanied her to claim the prize in Baltimore last week. “I’m so happy and excited for her,” she said.

The winner plans to use her prize for a vacation and to help make the holidays extra special this year.

The St. Mary’s County retailer that sold the lucky scratch-off shares in the fun. Wildewood Wine & Spirits, located at 23415 Three Notch Road in California, will receive a $500 Lottery bonus for selling the top-prize winning instant ticket.

This fifth edition of the Gold Bar Bingo game went on sale in July. It currently has four of its eight top prizes remaining. Also unclaimed are six $10,000 prizes and many others ranging from $5 to $5,000.
