Bel Air man claims $1.1 million prize on quick-pick ticket
A Harford County resident who plays Multi-Match regularly just received the largest win of his Lottery-playing career. The $10,000 prize he took home a few years ago. pales in comparison to the $1.1 million Multi-Match jackpot prize he won in the June 15 drawing.
The 65-year-old bought his lucky ticket when he stopped for gas at Wawa #557 located at 1515 East Churchville Road in Fountain Green. He regularly stops there to play Lottery games and bought one Multi-Match ticket for that evening’s drawing. He chose his own numbers for the first line of the ticket, while the last two lines were quick-picks. The Bel Air man later learned that one of the quick-pick lines of numbers won the jackpot.
Two days later, when he checked his ticket for a win, he saw a “See Lottery” message appear on the screen. He then went online to the Lottery website and matched the numbers on his ticket to the winning numbers for the drawing. Astonished, the winner visited the store again and was informed by the store manager that the jackpot-winning Multi-Match ticket was sold there. The lucky winner told Lottery officials that he just silently nodded and agreed, and the store manager knew that he was the winner.
The first order of business, the happy player said, is to pay off debts with the prize and then he’s off to Las Vegas for a much-needed vacation. A retired computer programmer, the winner enjoys playing computer games and taking care of his home.
His lucky Lottery retailer, Wawa # 557, collects a $1,100 bonus for selling a jackpot-winning Multi-Match ticket worth $1.1 million. The jackpot for the next Multi-Match drawing on Thursday, Sept. 28, is an estimated annuity of $540,000 with an estimated cash option of $290,000.
