Using family birthdays as inspiration for lottery numbers wasn’t working out for a Baltimore resident, so he made a change. Two top-prize wins soon followed on consecutive days this week: $5,000 playing Pick 4 on Nov. 11 and $50,000 with Pick 5 on Nov. 12.
“I do it while I’m driving,” the auto mechanic said on Nov. 14 when he claimed his prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. “I clear my mind and then think about numbers. The first that come to mind are the ones I play.”
While all lottery draw games produce random numbers no “system” can predict, it’s tough to argue with his results.
The $50,000 Pick 5 top prize that brought him to lottery headquarters was the result of numbers that came to the player early one morning.
“The numbers popped into my head as I was driving to work, one at a time, 2-1-7-3-7. At the next stop light, I typed them into my phone.” He then made a quick stop at Chadwick Liquors to buy his ticket for the evening Pick 5 drawing.
At home late that night, having returned from his second job delivering food, the hard-working City man checked the results on his lottery app. He scanned the Pick 5 results and immediately recognized the numbers.
“I dug out my ticket to make sure I played them in the right order.” He, of course, did.
The mechanic said he immediately began hopping around the room.
“I couldn’t sit still. I’d been working since 5:00 that morning, but the thought of $50,000 filled me with energy,” he said. He knew he had to wake his fiancée, but stopped first to offer prayers of gratitude for his good fortune.
The couple has been saving in hopes of one day opening their own auto repair garage.
“We still have a long way to go, but this puts us so much farther ahead for the year than I ever could have hoped,” the winner said.
Chadwick Liquors is at 7005 Security Boulevard. The Howard County business receives a $500 bonus for selling the top-prize Pick 5 ticket.
