Novice Racetrax Player Wins $102,419 with Quick-Pick Ticket

Superfecta wager sends her to the Lottery Winner’s Circle

A Silver Spring baker is rolling in the dough after taking her dad’s advice and playing Racetrax, his Lottery game of choice. She placed a quick-pick Superfecta wager for 20 drawings and won $102,419 on the horses Lady Luck sent her way.

The Racetrax novice and her dad were in the stay-and-play area of 29 Convenience Mart in Silver Spring on May 30 when he encouraged her to try her luck. “I don’t know how to play it that well,” she said. “My dad wants me to learn how to play.”

A scratch-off fan, the 22-year-old has won numerous prizes up to $5,000 on instant tickets but decided to follow her dad’s suggestion. “That day that I won, I was feeling extra lucky,” she said. After placing her wager, the two of them sat watching the races until her horses — 9, 10, 8 and 7 — crossed the finish line in that order in the 10th race to give her the biggest prize of her life.

“Everybody in the store was going crazy,” she said. “All the clerks and managers know us and were so happy for us.”

She left the Lottery retailer to share her great news with her fiancé. The pair of house hunters now have more than enough funds for a down payment on a home and will continue their search, she said.

The lucky store that sold her the winning ticket also shares in the fun. Montgomery County’s 29 Convenience Mart located at 10755 Colesville Road in Silver Spring earns a bonus of $1,024.19 from the Lottery for selling a winning Racetrax ticket of $10,000 or more. The bonus is equal to 1% of the prize.
