“Scratcher for Life” claims $50,000 second-tier prize after years of dedicated play
A dedicated Maryland Lottery player recently scratched her way to a $50,000 second-tier prize on the popular MONOPOLY X50 instant ticket. The Anne Arundel County woman, who selected the nickname “Scratcher for Life” to tell the story of her big win, is celebrating her biggest score to date.
A loyal player for more than 15 years, “Scratcher for Life” recalls first discovering her love of Lottery games when she received a scratch-off as a holiday gift and won several hundred dollars. That win sparked a passion that has turned into a weekly hobby, often bringing smaller prizes her way.
“I’ve had some luck over the years, but nothing like this,” she said with a smile.
The Odenton woman bought the winning $10 MONOPOLY X50 instant ticket at her favorite retailer, Lucky’s Deli & Market, located at 1101 Odenton Road in Anne Arundel County. During a lunch break, she picked up two MONOPOLY X50 scratch-offs at the Odenton location — a decision that would soon make her $50,000 richer.
Later that evening, she scratched off the games at home and was stunned to see the $50,000 prize. In disbelief, she scanned the instant ticket several times using the Maryland Lottery app to confirm the win.
“Scratcher for Life” has kept a low profile since her big win and doesn’t plan on sharing her exciting news widely. As for her plans for the prize, she intends to pay bills and tuck the rest away for a rainy day, citing economic uncertainty as a reason to be cautious.
The MONOPOLY X50 scratch-off went on sale on Jan. 13 as part of a Maryland Lottery family of MONOPOLY games and a MONOPOLY Second-Chance Promotion. Players can enter any of the six non-winning MONOPOLY scratch-offs into My Lottery Rewards for a chance to win a rolling cash jackpot or cash prize. Monthly drawings through July will award $5,000 prizes and rolling cash jackpots that start at $10,000 and grow until the drawing date.
