Old Address Secures a $50,000 Pick 5 Win for Baltimore Brothers

Two men split $50,000 prize 50/50

The five numbers from an old address secured a $50,000 Pick 5 win for two Baltimore brothers.

The siblings, ages 65 and 59, visited the Lottery Winner’s Circle Tuesday morning. While both were shocked by their win, nothing could dampen their excitement.

The oldest brother is the one who went into Weis Markets #89 in Baltimore to play the numbers, but he says his brother deserves half the credit because he encouraged him to do it. They were sitting in the parking lot of the grocery at 1080 Maiden Choice Lane when they decided to play a numbers game.

The oldest brother, who frequently plays Pick 3 and Pick 4, walked into the store and decided to play Pick 5 instead of the other numbers games because it was new. The Lottery started offering the Pick 5 game on Feb. 7.

“I didn’t think I’d win so quickly,” he said, chuckling. In fact, he thought they missed out on Lottery luck. The day after the second drawing on their ticket, his brother woke him up and told him to look again. The midday numbers in the March 5 drawing matched those on their ticket!

The pair placed a $1 straight bet on the numbers 01813 for the March 4 evening and March 5 midday drawings. The number is an old address with a zero added.

At the moment, they have no solid plans for their winnings and they plan to keep the news a secret.

For selling the $50,000 winning ticket, the Baltimore County retailer will receive a bonus of $500 from the Lottery. The bonus is equal to 1 percent of the prize.
