Baltimore resident “A.R.” celebrates April 24 at Lottery headquarters after claiming a $100,000 top prize on the 50X The Cash scratch-off game.
A Baltimore man who describes the past year as “rough” is celebrating a $100,000 top-prize win on a 50X The Cash scratch-off ticket.
The winner, who is going by the nickname “A.R.” to tell his story and remain incognito, is a regular Lottery player who enjoys scratch-offs and Racetrax. After a period of unemployment and the loss of his car, he recently started a new job as a street sweeper while continuing to support his two teenage daughters.
On April 19, “A.R.” finished an overtime shift and stopped at the Wawa at 7501 Pulaski Highway in Rosedale where he bought a sandwich and several scratch-off tickets.
Later that evening, he scratched the tickets at home while relaxing and initially thought he hadn’t won.
“I was cursing the Maryland Lottery,” he said on April 24 when he claimed the prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
That changed when he reached the final row on his last ticket and revealed a 10X symbol paired with a $10,000 prize — securing the $100,000 top prize.
“Ain’t no way!” he recalled.
As of April 24, “A.R.” had not shared the news widely and said he prefers to keep his win private.
The winner said he plans to use the money to pay bills and purchase a new vehicle.
The 50X The Cash scratch-off is a $10 game that launched in January as part of the Maryland Lottery’s X the Cash family of games, which range in price from $1 to $30. This is the third top prize claimed in the game, with six $100,000 prizes remaining.
Wawa will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
