Parkville Man ‘Breaks the Bank’ for $50K Prize on Lottery Scratch-off

A Parkville man just broke the bank this week to become the second top-tier $50,000 winner on the Break the Bank scratch-off game.

The retail worker was eating pizza and saw that a store across the street was selling scratch-offs, he said Sept. 29 when he claimed his prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. A casual player, he said he was inspired to purchase only a single ticket that day.

He thought he had a winner when his scratching revealed a $50,000 prize, but the number under the latex didn’t match with his number. No prize.

Then he saw he had the number 2 and that matched a 2 on a $5,000 prize. Good news.

But then closer inspection revealed the $5,000 prize was actual 10 prizes for a total win of $50,000. Great news!

“I never won more than $600. I had to check it three to four times,” he said.

The Baltimore County man said he is undecided as to how he will spend the prize money. He bought the ticket at 7-Eleven at 8507-A Loch Raven Boulevard in Towson. For selling the top-tier winning ticket, the Baltimore County retailer receives a $500 bonus, equal to 1% of the prize total.

The Parkville player is the second person to claim a top prize winner on the Break the Bank scratch-off. The first was from Pasadena. Six top prizes of $50,000 remain unclaimed on the game. There are also tens of thousands of prizes ranging from $5 to $5,000.

All non-winning tickets can be entered into the Unlock the Cash second-chance promotion in My Lottery Rewards, which can result in up to a $25,000 prize.

Players who enter $10 worth of non-winning Break the Bank tickets into their My Lottery Rewards accounts (in addition to or along with any winning or non-winning FAST PLAY Cash Combination tickets) will automatically receive an entry into the Unlock the Cash promotion. Two more drawings will be held, with two winners selected each time (for a total of four remaining). The two winners of each drawing will meet at Lottery headquarters to play the Unlock the Cash Live Game where they will unlock safes and have the opportunity to win as much as $25,000. The remaining Unlock the Cash drawings will take place on Oct. 9 and Nov. 6.
