Parkville Player ‘Shocked’ When Zeros Turn $10 into $100,000

Winnings from scratch-off ticket eyed for new home purchase

He’s enjoyed playing the Maryland Lottery for years and has won prizes in the $5,000 range, but a man from Parkville was astonished when he scored $100,000 on a $10 scratch-off ticket.

“I was shocked!” he said while claiming his prize at Maryland Lottery headquarters on Feb. 24 at. He was sitting at his kitchen table and, at first, he thought it was a $10 winner, then he scratched some more to reveal another zero. Then more zeros. Then he let out a shout and his wife, who was upstairs, heard him and asked what happened.

“I enjoy playing, but I never expected this. I feel like I’m dreaming,” the Parkville player said.

He and his wife anticipate putting the money toward a new house, and they may have a celebratory dinner.

Sharing in the Parkville player’s good fortune is Tobacco & Cigar Depot LLC at 8621 Walther Boulevard in Nottingham, which sold the winning Gold X50 ticket and receives a bonus of $1,000, equal to 1% of the prize.

The Gold X50 ticket tops the Maryland Lottery Top 40 Scratch-Offs Chart this week. After the Parkville win, it has six remaining prizes at the $100,000 level (out of 10 at the game’s start). In addition there are eight remaining prizes at the $50,000 level and 25 at the $10,000 level, as well as thousands more ranging from $10 to $1,000.
