Players in Silver Spring, Ellicott City Clean Up With $50,000 Powerball Prizes

It’s almost like it’s raining Powerball prizes as players from across the Maryland are claiming $50,000 third-tier prizes. A Silver Spring man won a $50,000 prize along with a good friend who claimed jointly on July 15, and a player from Ellicott City claimed a $50,000 prize on July 16.

The first Powerball ticket was sold at the 7- Eleven at 1319 Fenwick Lane in Silver Spring. For Mega Millions and Powerball, the player and his lottery-buying partner, who now lives in Florida, often buy five quick-pick tickets together, each making purchases in their respective state. On June 23, the Maryland player bought a single ticket for that evening’s drawing. He checked the app the next day and was pleasantly surprised when he saw he would end up with half of a $50,000 prize. Neither winner has immediate plans for the unexpected money, though one does have a trip to Asia planned and reports the cushion will come in handy.

The Ellicott City winner, an engineer, was quite surprised when he used the Maryland Lottery app on his phone to check his ticket and saw the slip of paper was worth $50,000. He plays the Lottery two to three times each month, and on June 28 he visited the Safeway supermarket at 4370 Montgomery Road in Ellicott City, spent $10 for five combinations for that evening’s draw using the quick pick option.

Upon discovering his big-time lottery win, he called and told his wife the great news. He and his wife are dog and cat lovers and plan to use the winnings to support an animal rescue organization.
