The Powerball jackpot is still rolling, but someone who bought a ticket in Odenton yesterday is celebrating this morning.
A Powerball ticket worth $1 million was sold July 29 at the Royal Farms at 1558 Annapolis Road in Odenton. The ticket matched the first five winning numbers that were drawn on Wednesday night (30, 36, 40, 42 and 57), but missed winning the $663 million jackpot because it did not match the Powerball number (2). The winner has 182 days from the drawing date to claim the prize.
With no jackpot winner on Wednesday night, the Powerball jackpot increased to an estimated annuity value of $707 million, with an estimated cash option of $309.7 million for the next drawing on Aug. 1.
The $1 million win in Anne Arundel County last night is the largest Powerball prize in Maryland during the current jackpot roll, which began after the jackpot was last won on May 2. There has also been a $100,000 prize, which was claimed by a Harford County retiree, and 12 prizes of $50,000 on tickets sold in Annapolis (2), Beltsville, Bethesda, Greenbelt, Hyattsville, North Beach, North East, Nottingham, Sykesville, Waldorf, Wheaton. Three of those $50,000 prizes remain unclaimed as of this morning:
- A ticket sold July 15 at Greenway Liquors, 7533 Greenbelt Road in Greenbelt
- A ticket sold July 18 at Walmart, 75 North East Plaza in North East
- A ticket sold July 18 at Wawa, 321 Buschs Frontage Road in Annapolis
In the nearly three months since the Powerball jackpot was last hit on May 2:
- The Maryland Lottery’s Powerball sales have been nearly $26.9 million.
- Powerball players in Maryland have won more than $5 million on those tickets.
- Maryland Lottery retailers have made more than $1.5 million in commissions from Powerball sales.
- Powerball sales have returned an estimated $6.7 million to State of Maryland programs and services (25 cents of each dollar worth of Maryland Lottery sales is directed to state programs).
Powerball drawings are held Monday, Wednesday and Saturday nights with a jackpot that starts at $20 million and grows after each drawing in which the jackpot is not won. Tickets are $2 and are sold in 45 U.S. states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the United Kingdom. Five winning numbers are drawn from a range of 1 to 69, along with one winning Powerball number from a range of 1 to 26. Players win the jackpot by matching all five numbers plus the Powerball number. The game also has eight other prize levels that range from $4 to $1 million.
