A retired food service worker who rarely plays scratch-offs decided to switch things up, and it paid off in a big way. The Hanover resident claimed a $50,000 top prize on the JURASSIC PARK scratch-off on July 29 at Lottery Headquarters in Baltimore.
The player said he typically sticks to draw games like Pick 3, Pick 4 and Pick 5. He estimates he can count on one hand the number of scratch-off tickets he’s purchased over the years.
That made his decision to buy a $5 JURASSIC PARK scratch-off at Snax Convenience at 6305-A Washington Boulevard in Elkridge an unusual one.
“I figured I’d try something different,” he said.
After purchasing the ticket, he scratched it while still in the store. Unsure of what he was seeing, he handed the ticket to the clerk for verification. Moments later, the clerk confirmed the exciting news: he had just won $50,000
The player immediately called his wife, who was overwhelmed with gratitude after hearing about the unexpected news.
“She just kept saying, ‘Thank you,’” the player recalled.
While the couple hasn’t finalized plans for the prize money, the winner said he is considering taking a trip to California.
Snax Convenience will receive a $500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling the top prize winning scratch-off.
The winner’s top prize was the last one remaining to be claimed on the JURASSIC PARK game. In addition, only one $5,000 second-tier prize remains unclaimed.
