Prince George’s County Grandmother Replays Racetrax Ticket, Wins $47,181

Finds luck with Trifecta Box wager

A self-confessed “numbers” player from Brentwood says she sometimes joins her adult son in a few friendly rounds of Racetrax at a nearby Lottery retailer. Doing just that on Feb. 12 gave the retiree a $47,181 prize to boost her bank account!

On the morning of the big win, the grandmother of two and her son went to AJ Liquors in Brentwood to play Racetrax. “The morning of, I wrote down the numbers I wanted to play, 10, 11, 12,” she said. “I don’t know where they came from, they just came to mind.”

The 72-year-old placed a 50-cent Trifecta Box wager on the horses numbered 10, 11 and 12 for two drawings, adding the Bonus multiplier feature. Her son favors Quinella wagers. Neither won on their first tickets, she said. Before they left, her son decided to replay his ticket and she did the same.

Checking the race results as they headed home, her son asked, “Mom, did you have 10-11-12? Those numbers came out!” He scanned her ticket with his phone, using the Lottery app, and couldn’t understand how she won so much money until he realized she placed a Trifecta Box bet rather than a Quinella bet.

A retired administrative assistant from The George Washington University Law School, the winner has two adult children and two grandchildren. She plans to give some of her prize to her church, help her son with some expenses and put the rest in the bank to enjoy in retirement.

“I’m blessed,” she said.

Also a winner is her lucky Lottery retailer, AJ Liquors located at 3801 Bladensburg Road. The Prince George’s County business earns a $471.81 bonus from the Lottery for selling the winning ticket. The bonus is equal to 1% of the prize.
