A Prince George’s County man was pleasantly surprised to discover he won a $30,000 Mega Millions prize.
He matched four of the first five balls drawn, as well as the Mega Ball, for a third-tier win on the July 14 drawing. Initially he thought he had won $10,000, but that is only the base prize for all third-tier wins. Every ticket has an automatic multiplier and this winner had an automatic X3 multiplier, increasing his prize to $30,000.
“I have been playing for years. I never thought I would win this much money,” the retired veteran said.
The winning numbers for the July 14 Mega Millions drawing are: 2, 4, 10, 48, and 56, with a Mega Ball of 22. He had a 55 instead of a 2, just missing out on the $637 million jackpot.
“I missed the whole jackpot by one number,” he said.
The western Prince George’s County resident said he is a loyal player but he doesn’t have a favorite set of numbers. He always selects the quick pick option. “I let the machine pick the numbers,” he said with a smile.
The big winner plans to use the money to pay off bills. He added he is spending his days during retirement fishing and exercising.
Seat Pleasant BP gas station at 5818 Martin Luther King Jr. Highway in Prince George’s County was the location that sold the ticket.
A $800 million winning Mega Million ticket was sold in Florida on Tuesday, but Powerball is still rolling. Saturday’s Powerball drawing is for a jackpot with an estimated annuity value of $707 million, with an estimated one-time payment option of $309.7 million.
