Prince George’s Player’s New Scratch-Off Strategy Yields $100,000 Win

An enthusiastic Maryland Lottery scratch-offs player from Prince George’s County says she had a feeling that one day she would win big. Her strategy for making it happen: buying the most recently released tickets she can find.

It finally worked. On Dec. 5, the $10 game Red 5’s Doubler showed up in stores. On Dec. 6, the player bought three of them. On Dec. 10 she visited Lottery headquarters in Baltimore and claimed a $100,000 top prize.

The player on a mission visited Harbor Market at 5515 Livingston Road in Oxon Hill on Saturday, Dec. 6, to get her $30 worth of tickets. Later that day while hanging holiday decorations, she remembered those tickets and decided to attend to the business of scratching.

She revealed the 25 numbers in the play area – but not the prize amounts under each number — as well as the five winning numbers at the top of the card. She noticed the fifth of the five winning numbers was 30 and it matched a 30 in the play area. She then scratched to reveal the prize amount: $100,000.

At first, it didn’t sink in. Then she scanned the ticket using the Maryland Lottery app on her phone and got the message, “take to lottery.” It was then she knew her premonition had been realized and she had her big win.

The food service manager says the big prize doesn’t mean she can’t retire just yet, but it’s looking nearer than before. She said she plans to use a portion of her winnings to remodel her home. When she’s not working or playing lottery, she enjoys gardening.

Harbor Market receives a $1,000 bonus as the retailer that sold a winning ticket worth $100,000.

This top-prize win is the first top-prize claimed on the new Red 5’s Doubler, leaving anther eight $100,000 top-prizes in circulation, along with 11 prizes of $20,000 each and 29 of the original 30 third-tier $10,000 prizes.
