Homesick for his native New Hampshire after several weeks on assignment with a work crew in Maryland, a casual casino gambler decided to play the Maryland Lottery and ended up winning $50,000 on a scratch-off ticket.
He and his team stopped at the Sheetz convenience store at 601 Pulaski Highway in Joppa and one of his co-workers said something to the effect of, “Could you imagine if one of us won the lottery?”
With that in mind, the winner took $15 in cash and purchased hot dogs and two $5 Let’s Make a Deal® tickets. Now he can imagine what it’s like to win the Lottery.
He claimed the prize at Lottery headquarters on May 23, just before he and his co-workers were leaving to return to New Hampshire. Once he gets home, he plans to consult with his dad – “he’s a money guy” – about what to do with his winnings. He anticipates “not spending any of it,” with one exception: “I’m going to grab a fishing rod.”
The Sheetz store where the winning ticket – and hot dogs – were purchased receives a bonus of $500, equal to 1% of the prize.
The Let’s Make a Deal® game went on sale on April 21 with seven top tier $50,000 prizes and after the New Hampshire player’s win, four remain unclaimed. Thousands of additional prizes ranging from $5 to $5,000 are also still out there.
The Let’s Make a Deal scratch-off also offers a second-chance promotion. Players can enter non-winning Let’s Make a Deal scratch-offs into My Lottery Rewards through Sept. 8 for the chance to win $5,000 cash or a trip to Hollywood. Five drawings will take place, each randomly selecting one trip winner and four $5,000 winners.
The five trip winners will win a four-day VIP trip for two to Los Angeles, CA to see a taping of the Let’s Make a Deal game show. In addition to round trip air transportation and hotel accommodations, each winner will receive $1,660 in spending money, a hosted tour of Los Angeles landmarks, and more. Winners will have the opportunity to visit a costume shop to purchase a costume to wear to the show, where they will “play along” with show contestants for that taping to win up to $3,000.
