Queen Anne’s Woman Surprised by $50,000 Powerball Double Play Win

A Queen Anne’s County woman has been consistently playing the same Powerball numbers since November of 2024. Lately, she doubled down, adding the Powerball Double Play option and increasing her chance of winning by a factor of 2.

The change worked on Jan. 5 when she completely missed winning in the main Powerball drawing but in the Double Play drawing about a half hour later, she matched four of the first five balls drawn plus the red Power Ball for a $50,000 pay day. Without adding the Double Play option for an extra $1, she would have been ineligible for that second drawing.

She bought the ticket at the Sunoco Truck Stop at 400 Thompson Creek Road in Stevensville, playing a series of combinations based on significant dates pertaining to loved ones.

While in bed after the drawing she decided to check the Maryland Lottery app for the winning Powerball numbers, as she had awaited them eagerly throughout the day after making her purchase. The player said Jan. 6 after she claimed at Lottery headquarters she freaked out after seeing that she had four matches on the Double Play drawing. Once she calmed herself, she called a few loved ones to share the news.

The winner works as a manager at a grocery store and plans to use her winnings as part of a savings plan for a new home. When not working or playing lottery, she enjoys spending time with her dogs.
