Quick Picks, Not Patterns, Help Player Win $50,000 Bonus Match 5 Prize

Washington D.C. man takes home the game’s top prize

A retired U.S. Postal Service employee who plays a pattern of numbers every night on Bonus Match 5 found it was a Quick Pick selection that paid off in a big way. He won a $50,000 top prize in the March 1 drawing.

The Washington, D.C. resident said he will occasionally look at a series of Bonus Match 5 winning numbers and choose the five most repetitive numbers during that stretch. Then, he will play those numbers during the nightly drawing along with Quick Pick numbers.

“It didn’t faze me at all,” the big winner said after he saw he matched all four numbers and the Bonus Ball in the drawing. He feels like he is on a winning streak, the loyal player told Lottery officials, explaining that he has matched four out of five numbers multiple times using his system.

He plans to continue to follow his play style. “If my system gets stale, I will reset and find 10 new numbers or just purchase more random numbers.” The happy winner is still considering his plans for the prize.

His lucky retailer was Meyers Liquors, located at 3601 Old Silver Hill Road in Suitland. For selling the top-prize winning ticket, the Prince George’s County retailer receives a Lottery bonus of $500.

Five top-prize winning Bonus Match 5 tickets have been sold in 2025 and a winning ticket sold at the Greenspring Shell in Baltimore is still unclaimed.
