Random Number Leads to $50,000 Pick 5 Win for Silver Spring Woman

Lottery luck shined on a Montgomery County woman Oct. 22 as she was out buying groceries. While out, she stopped at a Citgo Station to purchase some Lottery tickets, including a Pick 5 ticket that ended up being a $50,000 winner.

In the midst of her errands, she used some extra change to play some Lottery games. A number just came to mind and she played 43982 straight for $1. She said it was days later when she found out she won at a Lottery retailer when the ticket was scanned.

“I couldn’t believe it,” she said. “I was about to start crying.”

The winner called her husband and son to share the news.

“My husband told me to keep checking it,” she smiled. “He thought I was wrong.”

The excited player was not mistaken. Every scan revealed the same message: she was holding a $50,000 winning Pick 5 ticket. She put the ticket away and claimed the prize on Oct. 29 at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore with her son at her side.

“I’m really happy for her,” said the son. “She deserves it.”

The Silver Spring resident said she plans to pay off some bills with her winnings and may look into buying a home.

The Aspen Hill Citgo at 13615 Georgia Avenue is also celebrating the win. For selling the winning ticket, the Montgomery County retailer receives a $500 bonus.
