Son picked out instant ticket, straying from winner’s go-to football scratch-off selection
A serious Baltimore Ravens fan and casual Maryland Lottery player from the Eastern Shore typically buys scratch-offs adorned with the logo of her favorite NFL team. It was a GAME OF THRONES™ * instant ticket, however, that won her a $50,000 top prize.
“When I get the urge, I usually play Ravens tickets,” she said this week after claiming her newfound fortune at Lottery headquarters.
In this case, however, the GAME OF THRONES scratch-off choice was made by her adult son, who accompanied his mom to headquarters. The son said he noticed there were three $5 instant tickets left in a pack on display, so he bought all of them for his mother. She discovered the big prize on the last of the three GAME OF THRONES scratch-offs.
The Queen Anne’s County resident says she may finance a trip to Jamaica with her prize, adding, “I want to fly this time.” She also plans to square up her finances with her windfall.
Her son bought the winning ticket at Go Mart, 741 Main Street in Church Hill. The Queen Anne’s County retailer receives a Lottery bonus of $500, equal to 1% of the prize, for selling the $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off.
This scratch-off went on sale in September with six $50,000 top prizes; five remain, along with other prizes ranging from $5 to $5,000. The instant ticket, ranked 11th on the Lottery’s Top 40 Scratch-offs list, also has a second-chance promotion. Players who enter nonwinning GAME OF THRONES scratch-offs into their My Lottery Rewards account could win a trip to Napa Valley, California for the chance to play THE SEVEN KINGDOMS EXPERIENCE and win their share of up to $7 million in cash prizes.
