Game day was a good one for a Maryland Lottery player in Rockville, regardless of team preference. The Ravens beat the Titans of Tennessee, 24-18, while the Commanders fell to Indianapolis, 30-13, but the Lottery player in Montgomery County had a much better number: a $20,000 second-tier win on the new game Powerball Xs & Os™.
The winning ticket was sold at the Exxon gas station at 1215 East Gude Drive in Rockville. The team mascots to match – all selected at random in the for Oct. 4 drawing – are the Atlanta Falcons, Baltimore Ravens, Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos, Detroit Tigers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Los Angeles Chargers and the Washington Commanders.
The winning ticket shows seven of those eight team logos for the second-tier $20,000 win.
Powerball Xs & Os is a multi-state game that launched Sept. 8 in conjunction with the start of the NFL™ season, though winning the Lottery game has nothing to do with which teams are victorious. The game will continue throughout the year after football season comes to an end.
To play the $5 game, pick eight team logos. If you match all eight to those drawn on Sunday, you win the jackpot, and there are prizes ranging from $7 to $20,000 for matching anywhere from four to seven. Tickets are sold in 23 states and Washington, D.C. The game also has an array of second chance prizes.
The Lottery encourages the winners to sign the backs of their tickets and keep them in a safe location. All players have 182 days after the date of the drawing to claim the prize.
Instructions for claiming prizes are available on the How to Claim page of the Lottery website. Prizes of more than $25,000 must be claimed through Lottery headquarters, either in person or by mail. Lottery headquarters is in the Montgomery Park Business Center, 1800 Washington Blvd., Suite 330, in Baltimore. An appointment is required to claim in person (no walk-ins). The appointment scheduling page shows all available appointment times.
