Rosedale Player’s Gift to Self: $50,000 Winning Lottery Scratch-off

$50,000 Cash, a $20 game, has more than 100 top prizes remaining

For birthdays and other celebrations, she generally gives friends and relatives Maryland Lottery scratch-offs so it was no surprise when the loyal player gifted herself a $50,000 Cash instant ticket on Mother’s Day. The surprise: she won the game’s $50,000 top prize.

“I play every day. She never plays,” the Rosedale woman’s husband said on June 1 when she claimed her prize. She corrected him: “I play scratch-offs a lot and give a lot of scratch-offs as gifts.”

On most occasions when she plays, her preference is for instant tickets that cost $5 or $10, but on Mother’s Day she decided to play the $20 $50,000 Cash game. The scratch-off has more than 100 top prizes available.

The Baltimore County winner’s $50,000 score is the biggest (that she knows of) for any of the instant tickets she has either played or gifted, although her Lottery purchases have resulted in wins of smaller amounts for herself, family and friends.

Her husband said part of the prize will help pay off his truck loan, which has four remaining monthly installments. In addition, the winner is considering the purchase of an iPhone as well as taking a vacation. A few other beneficiaries of her windfall will be her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Also benefiting from her Lottery luck is Giant grocery store #100 at 11399 York Road in Cockeysville. The Lottery will give the Baltimore County business a $500 bonus, equal to 1% of the prize total, for selling a $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off.
