Talbot County Woman Scores $50,000 Playing $50 Scratch-off for First Time

Wins her second $50,000 instant ticket prize

Lottery luck strikes twice! An Eastern Shore woman who won $50,000 in April 2022 playing a Power 5s scratch-off won the same prize again this week playing the popular 50 Years! scratch-off. The Talbot County resident won big the very first time she played the new $50 scratch-off, which went on sale in February as part of the Maryland Lottery’s 50th anniversary celebration.

The 65-year-old was shopping for graduation gifts when her travels led her to Carroll Motor Fuels / JK 22 located at 8276 Elliott Road in Easton. The big winner stopped to buy gas and, while inside the store, decided to play some Lottery games. The scratch-off fan had not yet tried the 50 Years! game so she purchased one instant ticket and played it in her car.

“It confused me at first because I revealed the “treasure chest” symbol and it said “Win All,” said the player, smiling. “I didn’t know if it meant that I won ALL the prizes, so I had to go back and read the directions.”

The retired state employee was correct! The directions said that she won all 45 prizes on the scratch-off, which added up to a whopping $50,000.

“I was shocked,” she said. “And, when I saw there were only four of the $50,000 prizes remaining, I just kept thinking how blessed I am.”

The mother and grandmother drove home and waited for her husband to arrive to share the news with him. According to the big winner, “He was shocked, too, and probably won’t believe it until he sees some confirmation of it.” The fortunate player told Lottery officials that she’ll tell her children and grandchildren at a special celebratory dinner.

She plans to pay bills with her winnings.

The 50 Years! instant ticket went on sale in February with six $50,000 prizes; three remain. There are also two $5 million top prizes left along with seven $100,000 prizes and 58 $10,000 prizes.
