Rude Driver’s Actions Steer Glen Burnie Man to $500,000 Pick 5 Win

Lottery fan plays 10 tickets using license plate digits

When driving on the highway, you’re supposed to obey the rules of the road and be courteous toward other drivers. However, that doesn’t always happen. The rude action of one driver inspired a Glen Burnie Pick 5 fan to play a combination of the driver’s license plate number on 10 Pick 5 tickets, leading to a total prize of $500,000.

In late December, the occasional Pick 5 player was coming into Maryland from out of town when he encountered a vehicle that cut him off on the highway. Somewhat perturbed, the Anne Arundel County resident noticed the number on the other vehicle’s license plate and decided to play a combination of the digits later that day.

He stopped at Doc’s F&B Liquors in Glen Burnie and played the number straight for $1, pocketing 10 identical but separate tickets. “I figure if you’re going to play, you should play big,” said the winner.

After his purchase, the technician went home and fell asleep. He checked his tickets for a win the next morning.

“I scanned the tickets using the Lottery app on the phone,” said the winner, smiling as he recalled the happy moment he realized he won $50,000 on each ticket. The lucky player shared the news with his mother, who was very happy for him. He plans to pay bills with some of his prize and invest the rest of the funds.

Also a winner is Doc’s F&B Liquors located at 7067 B&A Boulevard in Glen Burnie. For selling 10 $50,000-winning Pick 5 tickets, the Lottery retailer receives a $5,000 Lottery bonus.
