Salisbury Shopper Leaves Walmart $50,000 Richer

Becomes second top-prize winner on Cash Boom scratch-off

A Wicomico County man made a profit on his weekly trip to a local Walmart, winning a $50,000 top prize on a Cash Boom scratch-off.

The Salisbury resident was at the Fruitland superstore with his family and needed to kill some time, he told Lottery officials. So, he continued his weekly tradition of purchasing scratch-offs.

The 66-year-old said he enjoys scratching off his instant tickets while inside the store but this experience was different. He noticed an exciting match! His $5 instant ticket had three matching “dice” symbols that won him the $50,000 prize. His reaction?

“I play all the time. I wasn’t that surprised that I had won,” he said.

The loyal player is a carpenter in the Salisbury area and said he loves to fish. He is still thinking about how to spend his windfall. “At this point, I don’t know. I am undecided,” he said.

Walmart #2931 at 409 North Fruitland Boulevard will receive a bonus of $500 from the Lottery for selling the $50,000 top-prize winning instant ticket. The bonus is equal to 1% of the prize.

His lucky win is the second since the Cash Boom game went on sale Sept. 18. The first winner was from Carroll County. Six top prizes remain unclaimed along with 13 $5,000 prizes and others ranging from $10 to $1,000. Although Cash Boom is a newcomer to the scratch-off lineup, it is the fifth scratch-off on the Lottery’s Top 40 Scratch-off roster.
