Headache leads winner to top-prize win
An Anne Arundel County woman’s headache turned into a life-changing win. Known by the moniker, “Macy,” the longtime scratch-off fan visited Maryland Lottery headquarters April 15 to claim her $200,000 top prize from a Ravens X10 scratch-off ticket she purchased last November.
Macy, a regular Lottery player for over a decade, said she doesn’t stick to one game but has always enjoyed scratch-offs. While she’s had some moderate wins over the years, she typically plays when she’s “feeling lucky”.
That feeling struck on an otherwise rough day last November. “I had a terrible headache,” Macy recalled. “I went to the store to get some medicine and stopped for gas on the way home. While I was there, I picked up a ticket.”
After scratching it off and scanning it quickly in the store, the screen displayed a message she hadn’t typically seen. Feeling unwell, Macy assumed there was an issue and left. Later that evening, at home and feeling a bit better, she re-scanned the ticket using the Maryland Lottery app.
“The app revealed a burst with confetti and the amount—$200,000. I was shocked!” she said. She quickly signed the ticket and tucked it away for safekeeping.
Despite the excitement, life got busy. Macy shared that she told her family she had “good news” to share but never got around to revealing it. “Months later, I was with my family, and my sister asked, ‘What was that news you wanted to share?’ That’s when it hit me—I never cashed in my ticket!”
Macy immediately made an appointment to claim her prize. When asked what she plans to do with the money, she smiled and said, “This money is a blessing. I hope to bless others—mostly my family—and I’ll donate some to church or charity. I’ll also save a good amount, but I really hope to do good with it.”
Macy’s win also brings good news for the business that sold her the winning ticket. High’s, located at 1624 Annapolis Road in Odenton, will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling the top-prize winning ticket.
Although the Ravens season ended a few months ago, plenty of prizes remain on the $10 Ravens X10 game including three more $200,000 top prizes.
