A Baltimore City man is headed to the mall after winning a $50,000 Bonus Match 5 top prize. Lottery luck found the big winner last weekend.
The program counselor was on his way home after picking up his wife from work when he stopped in Jolly’s Food Mart to play some of his favorite games. His purchase included a few Bonus Match 5 tickets for the May 31 drawing.
Later in the day, he settled in to scratch his instant tickets and watch some television. He didn’t check his Bonus Match 5 numbers until the next day when his big win was revealed.
“I went up to the gas station, scanned my tickets and the one said to ‘Take to the Lottery’, he grinned. “I didn’t understand why and I asked the cashier what it meant.”
According to the winner, the cashier told him he won big.
He was in disbelief, but continued running his errands for the day. He was so happy, though, he stopped to get his car detailed.
“I just wanted my car right and I got the works,” he said. “I didn’t care how much it cost.”
With a shiny, clean ride, the winner headed home to share the news with his wife. He then put his ticket away for safe keeping.
When claiming his $50,000 prize on June 3 at Lottery headquarters, the Baltimore winner shared that he is going on a shopping spree.
“I like clothes and I’m refreshing my wardrobe,” he said.
In addition, he said he might get a new car for his wife and will save the remaining of his winnings.
Also celebrating is Jolly’s Food Mart at 1500 North Monroe Street. The Baltimore City retailer will receive a $500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling the winning ticket.
