‘Texas Woman’ Returns Home to Baltimore, Wins $50,000

This lucky Baltimore resident scored a $50,000 prize on a 50X The Cash scratch-off.

Claims second-tier prize on 50X The Cash scratch-off

The cliché that “Everything’s bigger in Texas” didn’t prove true for a former resident when it comes to scratch-off prizes. The instant ticket fan, who has moved back home from Texas to Baltimore, just beat her personal best Texas Lottery score of $500 with a sweet $50,000 Maryland Lottery win.

“I won $500 a lot in Texas,” said the healthcare worker, who played scratch-offs often in the Lone Star State. But this “Texas Woman,” as the anonymous player dubbed herself, had only experienced steady, small wins in her home state until she scored a $50,000 second-tier prize on the 50X The Cash game.

Her strategy is simple, the lucky lady said. She buys the game that catches her eye, the one that “speaks” to her and gives her a feeling that the scratch-off carries a prize.

“Texas Woman” was visiting Govans Marathon at 5101 York Road in Baltimore recently to cash in a $10 winning crossword scratch-off when Lottery luck came her way. She bought the $10 50X The Cash game and a $3 Loteria scratch-off. The winner followed her routine of taking the games home to play. Astonished to see the $50,000 prize, “Texas Woman” contacted her sister to share the good news.

“I said, ‘Are you joking with me?’” recalled the winner’s big sister, who accompanied her sibling to Lottery headquarters to claim the prize. “I came over there with my Lottery app to check the ticket.”

“Texas Woman” didn’t feel like celebrating until she had her Lottery check in hand. Her sister, however, was so excited she couldn’t sit still. “I danced around for her.”

“It was fate,” said the winner, who plans to spend her prize to “get my credit right and buy a car.” “It was blessings,” added her sister.

They joked about “Texas Woman” taking a break from just playing scratch-offs to try her luck with Mega Millions and Powerball. Both jackpots are past the half-a-billion-dollar mark, with the estimated annuity for tonight’s Mega Millions jackpot at $735 million and the estimated jackpot annuity for Wednesday night’s Powerball drawing at $559 million.

“She is always winning,” her sister said. “I think she should buy tickets.”

The 50X The Cash game went on sale in January with 10 $100,000 top prizes and 10 $50,000 second-tier prizes. Seven prizes remain unclaimed at both prize levels. A member of an X The Cash family of games, players can enter non-winning X The Cash instant tickets into a second-chance promotion to try to win prizes ranging from $50,000 to $75,000. Four drawings remain, with the next entry deadline being April 1.
