“Lucky Tiger,” a Towson University student from Montgomery County, won $50,000 on the Maryland Lottery scratch-off game Lucky 777.
A college student will have some extra cash in his pocket when he returns to campus this fall thanks to a $50,000 win on the Maryland Lottery scratch-off game Lucky 777.
The Towson University student, who is using the alias “Lucky Tiger” after his school mascot, initially thought he won $5,000 because he saw the word Autowin in a box with that prize amount.
“I saw it was a winner. Then I gave it to my mom to check,” the Montgomery County resident said.
His mom took a more thorough look at the ticket and told her son he missed more prizes as there were many more winning boxes on the ticket. There were three more Autowins of $5,000 and a 3X symbol on a $10,000 prize to add to the win. He had so many winning boxes on his ticket, he took his scratch-off to a scanner, which revealed the true total: a $50,000 second-tier prize.
“I was ecstatic when I found out it was that much money,” said “Lucky Tiger.”
“It was his big first win,” added his mom, who joined her son at Lottery headquarters on July 14 when he claimed the prize.
According to “Lucky Tiger,” he has been playing the Lottery since he turned 18. He said he will spend some of the prize now but will put the rest in the bank.
“He needs to pay for college,” his mom said.
The winning ticket was purchased at the Onley 7-Eleven at 18120 Georgia Avenue in Montgomery County.
The Lucky 777 game launched on May 19 with six top prizes of $1 million and eight prizes of $50,000. “Lucky Tiger” is our fifth second-tier prize winner. Four of the original six $1 million prizes are still unclaimed and along with three $50,000 prizes. There are tens of thousands of prizes remaining ranging from $20 to $10,000.
